Is it possible to come through from a hypoglycemic attack on your own without medical attention or medication?

Question by BluEyes: Is it possible to come through from a hypoglycemic attack on your own without medical attention or medication?
I am a 26 yr old woman and I have been diagnosed with hypoglycemia which I’ve never been told to be related to diabetes. I very rarely have an attack but there are times when my sugar gets so low that I get shaky, jittery, disorientated, turn pale white and I feel a faint feeling coming on and if I address it soon enough with a glass of orange juice and some cheese (suggested by doctor) the symptoms pass quickly on their own. My fiance is a paramedic and it upsets me a lot because he discounts the validity of me having this condition since it’s been his experience in the medical field that people only recover from an attack if drugs are pushed. Could it be possible he is uneducated or unaware of those of us with milder cases, such as mine, that don’t require an ambulance and maybe that’s why he is so set in his beliefs that if I was to have hypoglycemia and an attack was to come on, that did causes me to faint, I couldn’t wake up from it on my own? Please help and tell me your source of knowledge!

I have hypoglycemia and it is true that there are no medications for it.

My doctors told me to just make sure I eat something every few hours…something small. Like lower my portions of food at lunch and dinner and always have small snacks in between.

It is caused by your sugar getting too low, so just make sure you always have snacks with you (a cereal bar, nutrigran bar, some crackers). Those all work for me.

If I do feel like I am getting shaky and disoriented, I just eat something right away.

It sucks I know and despite what your doctor told you, they say it can be an early warning sign of diabetes. Just be sure to eat healthy and stay in shape and you should be fine.

How to tell my bf that?

Question by : How to tell my bf that?
How to tell my bf; who hasn’t proposed to me formally yet, that my parents will never accept his proposal , neither can I, because of his Alcoholism.

We have been dating for a very short time, but where I live most people date to marry , though not said out loud most of the time.

I want to tell him that I think we may have no future together, because of his drinking habits.I want to offer him to stay by his side as a friend if he wants to seek help for it.This is the best I can do actually. If he sobers up for few years, and I am still single we may get married then.

I told him we need to talk.He thought I wanted us to get serious quickly .He just hinted that it is too early , and kind of ignored me.HE doesn’t see the problem..Shall I dump him because he is too arrogant, just assuming I am ok with everything he has to offer, and at his own timing too.
He didn’t ask to marry me.How can I tell him you can’t be my husband!!

What is the best way to talk to a heroin addict without showing you are scared of him?

Question by neelia_lyn: What is the best way to talk to a heroin addict without showing you are scared of him?
We have a neighbor that is an addict. His father wanted him in jail or in a rehab but he has to plan what is best for his son. every time we pass by their house, we don’t know how to respond to him sometimes specially if he looks like he’s high. We have no evidence that he’s using heroin but he acts weird sometimes
This is a good person by nature. It is just lately that he started acting weird and sometimes dangerous.

Q&A: What caused my anxiety?

Question by Freckles: What caused my anxiety?
About 4 1/2 months ago I did ecstasy and got water poisoning at the same time which resulted in my throwing up and barely being able to stay conscious for about an hour or two, but I recovered very quickly and felt completely fine for about a month. In this month I was smoking an drinking about 3 times a week but I was always safe about it (no black outs, no throwing up, etc) then I went on a smoking binge of about 5 days and one night I smoked and had a huge panic attack. I haven’t smoked since and haven’t drank more than one or two drinks at a time since then but I had three more attacks since then, but I haven’t had any in about 2 1/2 months. This was the summer before my freshman year in college. Also, I have never had anxiety, in fact I was the most laid back person ever, but I had depression my freshman year of high school (we didn’t know it then but looking back me and my mom agree that I was suffering from it to a certain extent for most of the year).

So my thoughts are, it could have been:
The drugs (I’ve been drinking and smoking for about 2 years and have never had any negative effects)
The water poisoning
Pre-college anxiety (I wasn’t scared to go but I was less than excited, and my last 3 attacks happened while visiting family where college was the main topic of discussion for about 2 weeks straight and I had to act super excited the whole time, my therapist suggested I got performance anxiety)
Or something hereditary (my mom had anxiety in her 20s) since I had it mildly four years earlier.

And as I said, I’ve barely drank since the first panic attack and haven’t smoked at all (nor have I done any drugs) but I’m starting to want to again. I’m not an alcoholic and its not peer pressure or anything. But I’m in college, I’m around people who are drinking and smoking constantly, it gets very old being sober every night and baby sitting my wasted friends. I’ve always been very smart and responsible about drinking and smoking, I’ve never let it interfere with my friends, family, or school work, its purely a social and recreational thing. I also never drink if I’m in a bad mood, I’ve never seen alcohol or weed as a means of self medication and its the last thing I want to do when I’m upset. So please don’t comment on how pathetic I am for wanting to drink, its perfectly normal for someone my age to want to party especially after having gave up my whole summer and first month of college to be sober. However, I’m terrified that if I drink or smoke my anxiety will be horrible. Has anyone had any experience with this? My anxiety has gotten way better since I’ve come to college but I also get depressed sometimes now, but I’m assuming its for the same reasons I got depressed in high school, the change and missing my old friends.

Homeless Ted Williams ( Golden Voice ) gets a Job with Cleveland Cavaliers!

The Cleveland Cavaliers have offered a job and a house to a homeless man with a golden radio voice. Ted Williams, whose deep baritone and plight have made him an online video sensation, was first contacted Wednesday by the NBA team during an interview on a local Columbus radio station. “We’d like to offer you full-time work with the Cleveland Cavaliers, as well as Quicken Loans Arena. On top of it, because we know you’re a person trying to get up on your feet, Quicken Loans is actually offering to pay a mortgage on a home,” team spokeswoman Tracy Merek said on the show. The 71-year-old father of nine tells Fox8.com that he will take the job offer. “That lady offered me a full-time job with the Cavs and then something about the mortgage of a home? I’m going with that! Out of all the offers I’ve had, and I’ve had quite a few, I’ll be working in Cleveland, Ohio,” Williams told the website. “It’s just phenomenal and it’s getting more and more overwhelming as the minutes go by.” Williams was spotted by the Columbus Dispatch newspaper standing near a highway exit ramp. In a video interview, Williams — holding a cardboard sign that asks motorists for help and says, “I’m an ex-radio announcer who has fallen on hard times” — explains in his smooth, deep voice that he grew up in New York and that he was drawn to radio at the age of 14. Williams said he went to school for his voice training, but that his life was later affected by alcohol and drugs in the 1990s. He says he has

Alcohol and occasional depression shouldn’t mix?

Question by byenow: Alcohol and occasional depression shouldn’t mix?
hi. i’m 25 and have been diagnosed with severe depression and various personality and anxiety disorders. at the moment, i am not on any medication and am fighting my disease via will power and herbal remedies. my way is working surprisingly well, the thing is it doesn’t allow for allot of freedom. I have to monitor everything i think, drink, do and eat. this routine gets tedious after awhile and…..i slip up.

i got, among other things, a bottle of Barefoot : White Zinfandel for my 25 birthday. having avoided drinking for about a year, i was dismayed at how quickly I opened it. i loved it. my favorite kind. my favorite color. i couldnt turn it down.

its the second night, second glass. its half of half of half of a glass, but im only 120 lbs…..

i know that alcohol is a depressant on its own. i know my family has a tendency toward addiction, mainly: alcoholism, drug abuse. i know that im very vulnerable when i drink. i know that i’m a very lightweight drinker. i know that i shouldn’t take the chance of mixing this with that, but it just feels so good. alcohol has never made me feel good before, and i want to fool myself into thinking i can handle social drinking (drinking on holidays or special occasions). please tell me i can’t. im so in control of every other part of my life, that i like feeling out of control……every now and then.
i try my best to be a very level headed persong. I have been doing well avoiding drinking because of my huge anxiety over all the factors that i have that could lead to alcoholism: when i was in high school i wouldn’t touch it, when i was 21 i tried it, when i would go out and my friends would encourage me to have a sip i wouldn’t, even when the guys i would date would offer i wouldn’t accept….and i’m especially vulnerable around them.
it frustrates the hell out of me that i can’t do things normal people can.
ugh i should probably mention that when i say i tried it at 21, i mean i “tried” it for a month. i was hiding bottles………….

after that i’ve been extarr carefull

Answer by lil bit
Alcohol is a depressant. But there is nothing wrong with drinking alcohol in moderation…..except for an alcoholic. An alcoholic is someone who once they start drinking, they cannot stop.

It is good that you are being cautious – but as long as you can control your drinking – moderation is the best policy

I’ve been to UCLA, a private doctor whose quoted me ,000, I’ve written to Oprah and other celebrities for their help- does anyone know how to write for a grant- I’m very serious about fixing my teeth and the money is an issue- any suggestions? philanthropists?

I think it is really awesome that you kicked your meth habit, but if there is “free money” out there I think children from under privilege families would benefit most.

EDIT: Here is a list of dental schools by state (as the other person suggested). You could call one near where you live and see if they give you an estimate.

Could I be an alcoholic?

Question by Mia Mouse: Could I be an alcoholic?
I drink alcohol every evening, usually to get a little tipsy but not always. The alcohol varies from wine coolers, to beer, to wine (white or red)–but nothing “hard” like vodka, tequila, or whiskey.

I feel like I need a drink every night, regardless if the goal is to get a little tipsy or simply to just have a drink. If I don’t drink before bedtime I will lay down for 5 or 10 minutes before getting back up and pouring a glass of red wine to drink before I lay back down for the night. I have justified this because it helps me have a better (deeper) sleep and go to sleep more quickly.

Alcohol isn’t my life and I don’t go throughout the day yearning for a drink. As a matter of fact, I usually don’t even think about drinking until the evening, when bedtime is closing in. I suppose the only thing odd is that I do get up at night to have a glass of red wine if I haven’t had a drink previously.

I have told my friend that I usually have a drink each night and she has questioned me, feeling I may have developed alcoholism. I’m not sure what to think but she seems genuinely concerned. I never thought I had a problem with alcohol but she assures me that getting up for a glass of red wine is absolutely unacceptable.

What are other opinions on this matter?
If I am an alcoholic, then should I seek some sort of treatment? What kind, if so?
1. I do not drink to escape reality or my daily stress. I go to the gym 3 times a week and walk around the block the other 4 days. I have a very easy going job that I love and a happy relationship with my boyfriend, friends, and family. I simply am not drinking to “escape” anything. There is nothing I want to escape or ignore. Life is beautiful.

2. Alcohol is not interfering with my personal relationships or work. I function normally and have yet to see it affect the people around me or my personal performance. I do not show up tipsy in front of any person. I do not drink before work or going out. I do not drink in the morning. I do not “crave” it.

3. I do not get completely drunk or wasted–ever. One and 1/2 wine coolers gets me tipsy usually. Once I feel a little tipsy, I stop. I do not SEEK to become tipsy and I definately do stop when I feel such things because I fear drinking too much and getting ill to my stomach (seriously, I’m strange like that)
