oxycontin and wine………?
Okay, I know I’m going to sound stupid. I usually drink 2-3 glasses of red wine a day. I was recently prescribed oxycontin 20mg for a broken leg. I started drinking wine about two hours after I took the second dose for the day. THEN it hits me, alcohol and pain killers are a dangerous combination. I wasn’t sure if I should worry or not…??

no you dont need to worry at all. you should worry if you take about 100mg crushed and then drink wine immediately after.

The only thing you can really do now is to stop drinking. I wouldn’t worry about it unless you start to feel funny. Maybe call a friend to spend the night just in case something goes wrong. Otherwise, I’m sure you’ll be fine and there is no need to go to the hospital.
I hope all goes well!

If it has been 2 hours and you are still coherent you will probably be OK as long as you aren’t driving but you might want to have someone check on you for a couple of hours just to be safe. Lay off the wine until you are off the meds.

You should not be drinking when taking that kind of medication . you could have serious side effects. Read the label on your prescription and the insert that comes with it. It should tell you, it could be lethal. Hope your leg heals soon.

Yes, this is not good! I actually knew of someone who died from this. I know people do this alot, but you are definately taking a chance. Moderation!

From drugs.com “Do not drink alcohol while you are taking OxyContin. Dangerous side effects or death can occur when alcohol is combined with a narcotic pain medicine. Check your food and medicine labels to be sure these products do not contain alcohol.” I’d say don’t do it again.
