i am 15 i weigh 185 and i deadlift 425 i train 3 days a week with my football coach and i am progressing greatly i just dont know how to get into competitions
BarbellCompany says:
Give me a shout when you put it up. Proper technique and the appropriate training plan is critical for a big deadlift. Sumo or conventional doesn’t make a difference.
krazygargoil69 says:
yeah i guess it could be a form issue, but im not sure. as of right now i do not have a video of me deadlifting but i will put one up prob, next week. i deadlift convetionally by the way
BarbellCompany says:
I doubt it’s your traps. It’s difficult to assess your problem without seeing you lift. Can you post a video here on You Tube?

all i have to say is amazing, great job.. i had my first competition this sunday. my deadlift sucks and i think it is becuase of my weak traps and i think so becuase i strain it alot.. i am 16 and in the 220 weight class

I was 23 years old and at the very end of my eligibility as junior. I started competitive powerlifting at 18. I spent approximately 2 months on a strict high protein, low fat diet to drop from 156 to 150 and then shed 2 more lbs in the sauna the night before the competition. I swear I would never drop that much weight ever again although I did continue to drop weight to make weight as an Olympic weightlifter, just not so drastically.
Grebbstar says:
That’s just ridiculous!
How old were you and how long were you training up till that point? How much weight did you cut?
Skleevan says:
lolwut? 148lbs… thats crazy
ssnatcherss says:
Nice lift! That guy looks ripped.
BarbellCompany says:
Yeah its a good thing I am wearing a shirt considering I wear a rug on my chest nowadays!
delgadido says:
amazing. if i saw you walking around with a shirt on i would have never guess you could pull up that much weight
BarbellCompany says:
For me personally, yes it is a bit easier IMO than a conventional deadlift, IF you have good flexibility and maintain perfect technique. I could do about 60 lbs more sumo style than conventional style. Ask some other people though and their answer many be very different. I know people who can’t even deadlift sumo, but lift heavy conventional style. Bottom line is take advantage of the leverage mother nature gave you.
beast207 says:
is the lift legal cuz it is less of a pull to do with a widened stance
jus seemed easier
PaNiKK93 says:
No, mine bleed sometimes
anhzor says:
does the record applied to all dead lift style or just sumo type like you did? Im doing 260 pound at 120 pound bw was wondering if i can get it up if i do it yourway.
Matgic1 says:
Beautiful lift! You looked happy as hell too, man…congrats
BarbellCompany says:
Had to drop a significant amount of bodyweight over several months and some more in the sauna prior to the meet. No early weighin was permitted. I was totally bent on breaking the IPF junior world record and looking back it is amazing how much mental and physical energy I devoted to the goal of breaking the record. Silly really.

LOL! I’ve never taken any performance enhancing drugs especially steroids. I’ve always been kind of chesty and the powersuit pushes up the pectoral muscles much like a bra, embarassing enough. FWIW, I do not suffer from gynecomastia or “bitch tits” since I haven’t used steroids. I was an average guy doing a higher than average task by pulling that kind of weight. More >
