How do you turn in a neighbor who you think is a meth user?
I am baby sitting for my grand child who is only 10 months old. My daughter is lives in a apartment building where there are meth users in the building. Some of the neighbors are concerned about this including my daughter. It was reported to the land lord, but he does not seem to care. One of the meth users has mental problems including using meth. This woman has threatened my daugher and her child, my grand son. The police has ben called many times, but they fail to do anything about this. Another concern is that they will cause the building to burn down. Should I call someone in charge of drug inforcement? Any suggestions?

odds are, if the landlord won’t deal with it then she should move. even if these drug users get arrested, the landlord will just let other dangerous behavior go on. she should start looking to move somewhere the landlord is more responsible. her kids and all her stuff are at risk.

people do not get arrested for suspicion you have to prove it, see if you can find out if they are purchasing ingredients to make meth and see if they have odd things like ammonia tanks laying around.

Do these people have children? Try calling child protective services. I would just keep bugging the police. You know the old saying the squeaky wheel gets the oil. If you call them often enough they have to investigate and if they don’t I would go to the county cominishner. Someone has got to be able to help you out. And if moving is an option get the heck out of there.

Legally I believe the police have to keep your identity concealed so if you do call and report the neighbors the police can’t tell them who narked on them. Make sure you tell the police when you call though that you don’t want your identity revealed to these people. Some cities have tip lines you can call when you don’t want people to know who you are. Hope that helps.

call the police immediately as there is a real danger of the apartment house blowing up if they have a home lab. Any strange smells? If you suspect it, and children are in the home, call DHS as well. No harm will be done if you were wrong, but if your suspicision is right, you may remove a dangerous situation.

I already posted on your other question, but I was looking for more details.
First of all, if this woman has threatened your daughter….the local police have an obligation to hear your daughter’s complaint and file a restraining order against her neighbor.
Second of all, it is very important that you keep your cool. In situations such as this, where there are so many different scenerios that could take place each posing a potentially difficult problem for all parties involved, it’s vital that you remain calm.
My advice is that you speak to some of the other neighbors about their concerns. Draft up a complaint and send it to your local law enforcment agency. If this fails, you may want to contact your local congressional represenative who would be able to assist you in finding an alternate method of getting something taken care of.
It is your law enforcments responsibility to ensure the safety of the public, if they’re not doing their jobs…there’s a problem. It is also the responsibility of your landlord to ensure that all complaints are handled and dealt with accordingly….if a vast amount of people have expressed their discontents with this situation and something happens…the landlord can be legally held liable for the outcome of the situation.
Use your resources and be smart, everything will turn out fine.

If you are reporting a meth user, the Police don’t have time to deal with it. They want to go after the dealers and the cooks. The users are small fish compared to the others. The user generally won’t do time in jail, they will be sentenced to a program to help them manage their addiction. Remember the user is an addict. Since when is it a crime to be an addict? Addicts need help, not the Police.
If you are so concerned for you and your family’s safety living in the building, why not move to another location where you can feel safe? The landlord can not do much to make you feel safe when you complain about meth users. He could put locks on the doors to make the building secure, he could install more lighting to make you feel safer at night, but how can he stop someone from using meth? As long as the rent is paid and they are not causing a common nuisance like playing loud music late at night, harrassing other tenants, there is not much he can do. The laws that protect you in your tenancy are the same that protect the other tenants. Moving may be your best option.
