First Human Drug from Genetically Engineered Animals Approved

FDA recently approved the first biological product made from genetically engineered animals. The product, called atryn, is an anticoagulant used to prevent blood clots in patients with a rare disease known as hereditary antithrombin deficiency. These patients can develop blood clots during high-risk situations such as surgery and childbirth. The approval gives patients with this disease an important new treatment option. atryn is a therapeutic protein made from the milk of genetically engineered goats. These goats have had a segment of DNA introduced into their genes that causes the female goats to produce human antithrombin in their milk. fda’s approval prohibits using these animals for food or feed, and also ensures that the genetic modification is not harming the animals. The manufacturer will continue to monitor the product’s safety, including the possible development of immune responses in patients who receive repeated atryn treatments. The product is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2009. FDA Patient Safety News: May 2009 For more information, please see our website: www.accessdata.fda.gov

“Not going with science”…? Are you ok? I think you may have missed something. Re-read my comments, do some research, and if you still have questions…? Come back with one. Until then, waste somebody else’s time. One can only lead a horse to water.

Your question makes no sense..? I don’t think you get what she’s saying. There IS scientific evidence, lots of it, against the FDA for not protecting the public’s interest, but that of CORPORATIONS. Do what she says and do the research yourself! Many professional Doctors and scientists have come out against the FDA for allowing rx AND chemical co’s like Monsanto to pour toxins into our food and other products. The FDA keeps Americans in poor health so the AMA can keep the profits. Pretty simple.

There’s quite a difference between “talking shit to profession” and speaking the truth. “Talking shit” would be what you did, with your non-argument of “fuck off please”.
LOOK. Look at the revolving door of FDA execs and Big Pharma company execs. Some serious conflicts of interest going on there, all I’m saying. Just because I’m “just on youtube” (quite an ignorant statement) doesn’t mean I don’t know what I’m talking about…

I’m working with several phDs in my state who are putting together their own research on the corruption that lies at the top of the FDA. But some of the evidence is public record, just google: “fda pharma”..

What the fuck are you trying to be? Funny or are you really serious with the comment you just made. Look at you, talking shit to profession and thinking of yourself that you are higher than them.

I don’t trust the FDA as far as I can throw them. They’re in bed with the Big Pharm, who are publicly traded; it’s in their best interest to keep as many people drugged as possible.

Yes, despite the elevated risk for pathogen transmission by contaminated GM drug batches, the risk far outweighs the potnetial benefits. We are faced with a choice: die now from an incurable disease or the risk of dying later from a pathogen. The choice is yours to make.

Things that scientists can do now do seem a bit unreal. But than it raises suspicions on what new diseasesviruses or any other potentially harmful thing could grow from a genticaly enginered animal.

It’s guess for now the benefits of this seem to outweigh the negativity, that is if there are any negativts to this process.

As long as they keep the animals under lock and key I am fine with it. I don’t want half human half lamb for dinner.
