    I just enrolled at the methadone clinic yesterday so I have been on it for 2 days. Coming off a black tar heroin habit so im very happy to have this chance to get my life back together! but I also know its going to be hard to get off the methadone, but at this point the positives outweigh the negatives!!! so many ignorant people comment on methadone that DO NOT understand a true opiate addiction, I DO! black tar IV user here…

    I Have. I take 140mg of Methadone, now for many years,I’m very young (22) and I don’t plan to stop it ever but I know people that did, and there are studys, that “substitution” is better than other therapys like cold-turkey and normal therapy.

    Much better means… instead of 2% that maybe do it… maybe 5% do it.,it’s still a very small amount of people that can quit, but that won’t change until these people can’t be helped with their psychological

    thats something you dont hear everyday . my moms on heroin what do i do? lol sad though. we have methadone clinics here but you have to drive 80 miles one way and go back that evening. so unless you live in the city then its hard to get a private doctor to put you on it. so the alternative is checking into detox and here they give it to you for four to five days and send you home or rehab.

    my clinic charges me $36 once a week everyweek to go in there and get my weekly pills $36 bucks for something that costs them nothing , if you dont get weekly takeaways you pay $6 dollars a day so i feel fucking ripped off im a good earn for the doctors and chemists now and its bullshit no support to get off it at all im on 4 subutex a day and have for 7 years clean all that time and stuck in a circle of greedy fu@ks rippin me off give me heroin atleast , atleast id have a life and work etc

    every day to get your dose? Thats fucked up unless you live close by. I had to travel 40 miles round trip. federal law leaves dispensening up to the clinics you may be eligable to go 1 time amonth. Meth works the clinics for the most part are in for the money.

    Get off your butt and experience life! I used to sit around and whine and bitch, and finally decided to get on with my life. And yes, I’m on methadone and have been for 21 years. Its the only thing that works for me. It’s one hell of a lot better than the alternative(jail,death,etc) Make the best of what you have, man. You can do it, but don’t get so down on yourself.     Methadone saved my life. Otherwise I would be on the street trying to score 24hrs a day. Methadone allows me to work,be productive, stay out of jail, etc. etc. For me it works. If you don’t like that, that’s your problem. Its my life and I run it. Take care.

    Back in early 2004 my primary care physician began giving me methadone for two slipped disks, a herniated disk, and degenerative arthritis in my spine; I currently take 140 mgs. of Methadone a day with up to 4 Percacets for break through pain. Earlier this year (2009) when my new doctor attempted to take me off Methadone, my disabilities advocate stepped in and filed an injunction against him, as well as a civil suit against the clinic. Methadone works on many levels, especially for pain.

    There’s a big difference in addicted & dependent ANYONE whse ever had a drug prob can tell you that. I’m dependent on MMT, not addicted.
    It’s a shame those of you who were able to do it w/o MMT or have never EVEN BEEN ADDICTED can sit here & judge those of us who chose this method. You should be offering your support as a former addict not judging those of us who chose this way. & those of you who’ve never been addicted, HAVE NO ROOM TO BE JUDING AT ALL! MMT works & it beats the alternative.

    I have been a MMT pt or 9 yrs, YES, 9 yrs. I had been to rehab several times and each time it would only be a matter of time before I was right back to using again.

    I know there are those of you who are able to quit cold turkey or with one trip to rehab or with several trips to rehab, whatever BUT there are those of us who can not. For whatever reason, you can call us weak, you can call us wimps, you can call me whatever you want.

Yes, it can kill, but EVERY medicine that exists can kill in the right doses. pull your heads out of your asses.     I couldn’t agree with you more( quid pro quo) substituting one drug for another. not only is it poison , it’s just a legal way to sell drugs, some of these clinics can be worst than the dealers in the street, if you don’t pay you don’t get your dose. these clinics want opiate addicts to stay hooked on the shit, how else are they gonna make a living( off the misfortunes of drug addicts) these clinics are drug dealers

I wouldn’t hardly compare methadone to insulin, you don’t need methadone to stay alive. I’ve been a heroin addict for 14 years, been on methadone several times. To say you need it , you’re not stable at all ,especially mentally. you’re spiritual sick. five years ! what kind of clinic are you in. they should’ve winged you off by now. they want you to stay on it

    I take this VERY seriously as I’ve been on methadone now for just over five years. Just like a person needs insulin for diabetes, I need methadone for my opiate addiction. Just like diabetes is real, my addiction is a real. I’ve been stable for years now at the same dosage.
    “a little discomfort for a few days”, wow, I don’t even know where to start. If it were only that easy. Its not just the weeks and weeks of physical, but mental withdrawal as well.

    Been in Florida my entire life. Port St. Lucie for 26 years, and 2 years now in Belleview-Ocala. They’ve had very little problem with my dosage. According to a nurse I asked about one month ago at my current Ocala clinic, the average dose for people who’ve been there for at least six months is 120mgs. I hate hearing about a ‘maximum’. Everybody has a different metabolism concerning methadone.
